The Colbert Report:Stephen Colbert and Migrant Workers On Capitol Hill:Stephen Colbert took Capitol Hill by storm in an attempt to shed light on the difficulties of migrant workers.
Although the issue of migrant workers and farm labor touchy subject, such as Stephen Colbert led to his comedic presence, when he discussed the issue on Capitol Hill.
Many of you know, Stephen Colbert of his show on Comedy Central, The Colbert Report. Although he discusses the political themes and jokes about their efforts on the program, Stephen Colbert finally come to the shocking reality of the matter.
Stephen Colbert The Colbert Report aired on Thursday and the episode
showed Colbert corn packing and collect beans from the migrant farm workers. Colbert then said: “I admit, I started my day with a preconceived notion of migrant workers. But after working with these men and women … side by side in the unforgiving sun, I must say – and I mean this sincerely – please do not make me do it again. It’s very, very hard. ”
Taken to the difficulties that these migrant workers are exposed, Stephen Colbert took his way on Capitol Hill today to take a stand. As Stephen Colbert sat before the House judiciary subcommittee, he made the following statement:
“I very much hope that my star power can hit to hear it all the way down to C-SPAN 1.
“Farms of America is now too dependent on immigrant
labor to pick our fruits and vegetables. ”
“Now, the obvious answer to all of us to stop eating fruits and vegetables. And if you look at recent statistics obesity, many Americans have already begun.”
Of course, some members of the subcommittee were not very happy with the media attention that Stephen Colbert brought to the issue of migrant farm workers.
Rep. John Conyers asked Stephen Colbert to leave the hearing room, before he even got to take his position. Of course, he later reversed his statement and allowed Colbert to speak.
Republic Steve King said, “Maybe we should spend less time watching Comedy Central and more time with all the real jobs that are out there – those that require very hard work and those that do not involve sitting behind a desk. ”
It just might be Stephen Colbert and other celebrities generate media buzz topics such as migrant farm workers and immigration laws that actually affect change.
