Austin Collie:Career Day wide receiver Austin Collie helped the Indianapolis Colts to overcome some shaky defensive moments in the 27-13 victory over Denver Sunday at Invesco Field at Mile High.
The second year pro caught 12 passes for 171 yards, personal bests, and had two touchdowns as the Colts pulled away from the Broncos in the second half.
23-yard TD catch from Peyton Manning Colley gave the Colts two touchdown cushion with 4:26 remaining. Manning hit Collie on a 5-yard pass for a 13-0 lead in the second quarter.
It was the third game this season, Manning threw three TD passes and four-time NFL MVP is not intercepted. He completed 27-of-43 passes for 325 yards.
Colts (2-1) moved early to the line to stand in the second quarter as the Broncos (1-2) failed to score four plays.
But the Colts defense also struggled in pass coverage, as the former Purdue quarterback Kyle Orton threw for a career-best 476 yards. Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd also set a new personal record with 169 yards receiving.
48-yard TD pass Lloyd’s early in the third quarter closed Colts’ lead to 13-10.
Despite allowing 505 total yards, the Colts made to tighten with three red zone stops.
other TD pass went to Manning’s undrafted rookie Blair White, who was making his NFL debut in place of injured Pierre Garson. White caught a 9-yard scoring pass in the third quarter.
Colts also played without starting left decisions Charlie Johnson, who played the previous two weeks with stretching the right leg. Undrafted rookie Jeff Linkenbach started to Johnson.
Colts trip to AFC South rival Jacksonville (1-2) next Sunday. The Broncos will be in Tennessee.
