Kyra Sedgwick won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series on Sunday for her role as Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson in The Closer, marking the actress' first win and fifth nomination for the role.
Sedgwick beat nominees Glenn Close of Damages, Connie Britton of Friday Night Lights, Julianna Margulies of The Good Wife, Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and January Jones of Mad Men.
The TNT series The Closer is on its sixth season and has been renewed for a seventh. Last week, the show lost the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series - its only other nod received this year. Beau Bridges was nominated for his part as Detective George Andrews.
The Closer has been nominated for an Emmy six times.
Sedgwick, who is married to actor Kevin Bacon, starred in films such as Born on the Fourth of July in 1989 and Something to Talk About in 1995.
